MVEC Changing Student Lives With a Contribution to TSTC Foundation

This fall, TSTC in Harlingen introduced both an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Lineworker Technology and a certificate in Electrical Lineworker Technology. Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) recently donated $20,000 to the Texas State Technical College Foundation, to establish a scholarship fund for the Electrical Lineworker Technology program. The funds will assist deserving students with tuition, books, and tools to help them aim higher and succeed in the newly introduced program in Harlingen. MVEC to Resume Disconnections in October

In an effort to help our members overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Magic Valley Electric Cooperative stopped disconnecting accounts for nonpayment in March. Although Magic Valley was not mandated by the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) to pause our disconnection process, we decided to follow the lead of the PUCT’s requirements for investor-owned utilities regarding disconnections. The PUCT recently announced that they will lift restrictions on disconnections on September 30th, allowing investor-owned utilities in Texas to resume disconnecting customers for nonpayment. Transmission Emergency for the Rio Grande Valley

Mercedes, TX September 1, 2020 – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is issuing a Transmission Emergency for certain areas of the Rio Grande Valley. The affected areas currently include portions of Weslaco, Mercedes, and the surrounding areas. Additional areas may be added if called upon by ERCOT. At this stage, rotating outages are likely. Mercedes, TX., 8/1/2020– Magic Valley Electric Cooperative MVEC crews continue working to restore service to the approximately 287 remaining members affected by Hurricane Hanna.
