Longtime MVEC Board President, Martin E. Garcia Passes Away

Mercedes, TX: 11/10/2022: Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) Board President, Martin Enrique Garcia II (DVM) peacefully passed away on November 6, 2022. A graduate of Texas A&M University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Garcia joined the MVEC Board of Directors on July 3, 1972, and represented the Cooperative’s District 1 which encompasses Raymondville, Lyford, Linn, San Manuel, San Isidro, and parts of North Edinburg.  In 2001, Garcia was elected as MVEC Board President and served in that role until his passing. Garcia continuously served on MVEC’s Board representing District 1 for 50 years.

When he began his service on MVEC’s Board, the cooperative was comprised of approximately 12,600 members. Throughout his tenure on the board, Garcia was instrumental in guiding MVEC’s growth to becoming the 3rd largest cooperative in Texas and 22nd in the nation.  Garcia also played a significant role in expanding MVEC’s facilities from one central office in 1972 to now operating an additional Division Office, two District Offices, and a new Operations Center.  Serving on MVEC’s Board of Directors and representing the members of the cooperative was one of Garcia’s most loved and fulfilling aspects of his life.

“We are thankful for his contributions to MVEC” said General Manager, Brian R. Acosta. “His contributions and legacy will forever be cemented in MVEC’s history, and he will be greatly missed by many across the electric cooperative community.”

Garcia is survived by his lovely wife of 57 years, Celia F. Garcia, and his two daughters, Lilia and Alessandra; his two grandchildren, Martin and Celia; his siblings, Isabel, Cecilia and Michael and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.  We extend our condolences to the Garcia family and their loved ones.
