Magic Valley Electric Co-op Director Achieves Credentials in Today’s Electric Utility Competencies

Mercedes, TX – Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) board director Adrienna Peña-Garza has attained her Director Gold credential from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

To earn the credential, board members must complete a core set of five courses followed by a variety of elective courses in topics ranging from finance to technology. The Director Gold credential recognizes directors who are committed to continuing their education throughout their service on the co-op board by advancing their knowledge and performing their fiduciary duty to the best of their ability.

Today’s electric utility environment imposes new demands on electric cooperative directors, particularly increased knowledge of changes in the electric utility business, new governance skills and a working knowledge of the cooperative principles. Magic Valley Electric Cooperative has a commitment to work through NRECA to continue this director credential program for the benefit of their electric cooperative consumer-owners.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 private, not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, which provide service to 42 million people in 47 states.
